BIOGRAPHY

Photo 1Having been part of several music groups for about 20 years, I crossed a few years ago a milestone in my life of musician, which is releasing officially original songs as a solo artist (and not as a band) AND having done a video clip! And when I think about the fact that it’s me who has always been the one who watched videos in my life, especially during the time when SolidRok was airing at Musique Plus in the late 80s (Power Hour on Much Music and Headbangers Ball on MTV back then), and it’s now my turn to have my own and 1st official video! And this video is for my song Still Walking : one of my songs displayed on my website (please note however that I wouldn’t label my music as “metal” at all; but rather just generally speaking as “rock” with some heavy musical parts here and there). Even though my initial idea was to have a promotional tool such as a video clip, I also had a concept for my song Still Walking and that’s why I chose this song to make a video, which had been filmed in Arizona by Crew West and edited by O-Zone Productions in GatineauI would have liked to do also more video clips but due to budget limitation, I was able to pay for only one video. However, to find a solution to the fact that I was able to pay for only one video, I thought afterwards that it may be a good idea to have the lyrics displayed on the screen while music is playing, and that’s how I got the idea of making “karaoke style” video clips, an idea I applied for 2 of my songs: Very far from Home and From Darkness to Light.

I have currently almost one hour of Live material, which include other songs of mine that are not finished yet as well as songs that are already finished, and my goal would be to present a 90 minutes show or more as a headliner. Since I’d like to play my music in front of people who already heard it previously, and most importantly, people that would like to see me Live, I thought that the fact of coming up to concert promoters with significant music sales stats (if any) could be considered as a good “performance indicator” (so to say) for a new artist like me who is unknown from the general public. Therefore, in order for concert promoters to have additional data about the people who would be interested to see me Live, there will be a little survey with a box to check Yes or No during the buying process (when clicking on either one of the 3 buttons titled Buy with Paypallocated in the section “My Music” of my site), and I hope that this little survey will give an additional performance indicator for concert promoters in order to know if, by purchasing my music, that means if Yes or No you’d be interested to see me Live in your town or a town near you if the opportunity arose. If you check No, I’ll conclude that you’re buying my music for listening purposes only, thing that I won’t complain at all of course!  But in such case, if you check No, your answer will simply not be included in the survey data I would send to concert promoters (only if I have a lot of Yes of course).  I have chosen this strategy due to the fact that it’s the 1st time I release officially compositions of mine, and also because I’m a new solo artist who is unknown from the general public. Because normally, one of the 1st question a concert promoter would ask me would be for example: “How many shows have you done so far? Do you have a following?”, etc… And in order to reach all people around the world who would like the kind of music that I do, that’s why I decided to sing in English in order for the language to be not an obstacle to bring my music everywhere in the world.

Also, please also note that since I haven’t found images that correspond exactly to what I want to represent for each song, that’s why I chose just a music note symbol as a background image for my 2 “karaoke style” videoclips because it’s a symbol to which I strongly relate to, and that I don’t associate to a specific song. And it is a little bit along the same lines that I included pictures of me with an Ibanez and a Fender guitar (photos taken by Darcy Rowan Photography) because I find that these 2 brands have their respective advantages. And as for the video for Still Walking, I chose my black Fender simply because it was more convenient to have for the video shooting.

And finally, thank you all for your interest in my music; available in streaming and on sale in the section of my website titled: “My music”.  Enjoy!

MY MUSIC

All music and lyrics for all of my 3 songs has been composed by me. However, in the song From Darkness to Light, the keyboard solo between 2min38 and 2min52 have been composed by Marianne Dumas. And as for the ending starting at 4min12 until the fade out of the song, Marianne ended the song with one of my “keyboard riff” in the keyboard solo towards the end of the song BUT she adapted it with a very good appropriate keyboard sound at the end of the song. Given the good result it gave, that’s why I decided to have this song end this way. The rest of the keyboards parts in this song have been composed by me BUT performed by another keyboard player: Johnny Maz. And while created at different years, all 3 songs have been recorded and mixed in 2014-2015 at O-Zone Productions who also produced my 2 videoclips “karaoke style” for Very far from Home and From Darkness to Light.

ABOUT THIS SONG
This song was supposed to be initially an instrumental song. Because having always been mainly a guitar player (and not a singer) in my life of musician, I wanted to show with this song that I also play instrumental songs. HOWEVER, as I was listening to this song, I saw a concept to this song along the way and that’s what gave the 19 words for this song. I wanted to have initially a female singer to sing those 19 words on this semi-instrumental song (which was supposed to be initially a 100% instrumental song) but since I was unable to find any female singer available, that’s why I decided, in the end, to sing those 19 words myself. I have other instrumental songs (in addition of those where I sing) and I hope I will be able to play them Live if I ever get the chance to come play in your town or a town near you.

PRONOUNCIATION

Ok, let’s first start with the origin of my last name. The real spelling of my last name is “Eid” and my parents are from Egypt and they immigrated in Canada back in the early 60s; they were part of the French community in Egypt (but I’m born in Canada and my 1st language is French). And while “Eid” is from Arabic origin, the French community in Egypt had its own pronunciation for this last name and therefore, that’s why the pronunciation I’ve always been taught is the French one, which sounds phonetically like “eed”. For example, take the last name “Reed”, as in Lou Reed or guitar player Vernon Reid BUT don’t pronounce the “R”. The pronunciation most English speaking persons and French speaking persons do for “Eid” is unfortunately like the end of the word “apartheid”, which is incorrect (and apartheid is also a thing incorrect) so therefore, that’s why the right French pronunciation of my last name sounds phonetically like “eed”. And as for the Arabic pronunciation and spelling, it goes like this: Aïd, which phonetically could be written like the English pronoun “I” (for “”) + “eed”, which sounds pronounced all together (in one word) like this: “Ieed”. But once again, in my case, the pronunciation of “Eid” is the French pronunciation and it sounds phonetically like “eed”.

And as for my first name, the real spelling is “Christian”, but all English speaking persons have the reflex to pronounce it with the pronunciation of someone who is “Christian” in the sens of religion (although I’ve been raised as a Christian) but this is not the real French pronunciation, although “Christian” is the right spelling. For my first name, imagine the last name “Christie” (as in the author “Agatha Christie”) and the word “and” BUT don’t pronounce the “d” and the “n” as well, which therefore sounds spelled all together “Cristian”, and it’s specifically because you must not pronounce in English the “n” in my first name that I decided to not go with “cristianeed” for my domain name (written all together), but rather with another name that is relevant in my case and that’s how I came up with “meandmymusic” for my domain name. Furthermore, since the French accent is different in Quebec than the one spoken by French speaking persons in Europe (France, Switzerland, etc..), and that I would simply qualify as “the general French accent”, the way those French speaking persons with “the general French accent” pronounce the 2nd half of my name (an) is slightly different than in Quebec. Instead of taking the word “and” as in my example shown above, say the word “on” BUT don’t pronounce the “n”, and that’s how French speaking persons with the “the general French accent” pronounce the 2nd half of my name (an). However, given the fact that most of my French speaking friends speak French from Quebec (I’m originally from Longueuil, a suburb in the Montreal area, but I’m born in Montreal), that’s why I chose the example of the word “and” instead of “on” and this: to reflect the pronunciation being used in Quebec.

Ok, now: you may wonder why I took the time to write a specific section about the pronunciation of my full name? Because of the following reason: whenever you are at a bar while the music’s loud, and you try to have a conversation in these conditions, you all know what the situation is: it’s very difficult to talk to each other and hear what people say to you. So in my case, when I started going out in bars in Ottawa during weekends to see Live shows (activity I still do from times to times in Montreal as well), whenever I was introducing myself to English speaking persons and pronounced my name phonetically as “Cristian”, people don’t hear well because of the loud music and they go: “WHAT?” So in order to not let people wait and to move on with the conversation, that’s why I felt pressured to answer rapidly: “Christian” but with the pronunciation of someone who is “Christian” in the sens of religion, but this is not the real French pronunciation, although “Christian” is the right spelling. So I said to myself this: in case my music would have some sort of popularity in the world, and that I would experience some kind of success, I deemed that the “linguistic precisions” I mentioned in the first 2 paragraphs of this section would be necessary in order for everyone to know the correct pronunciation of my full name, which is CRISTIAN EED and that’s why I decided to create an artist name with my full name being displayed as “CRISTIAN EED” to reflect the right pronunciation of my full name (but my legal name remains “Christian Eid”)

And finally, given the amount of linguistic information mentioned above, that’s why I deemed more relevant to include them in a specific section (which is the page you are viewing right now) rather than inside the section “ Bio ” of my site.
